DUTCH OVEN CRANBERRY APPLE COBBLER

An old truck driving friend of mine who dearly loved his pie and coffee once declared the holidays to be “PIE SEASON”! Holiday pies are a tradition in our family going back as long as I can remember. Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie, and Mince Pie all graced our table at Christmas with each slice topped with fresh whipped cream. In the late 1950’s Mom found a recipe for Cranberry Apple Pie and it instantly became a family favorite. So…it only seemed natural when I started writing Dutch oven cookbooks to adapt it to a Dutch oven recipe. I chose to make it as a cobbler which I think more beginning Dutch oven cooks are likely to choose over trying to do a two crust pie.

Anyway…  In this video I show you an easy pastry crust for the cobbler topping that also doubles as a pie crust if you want to make a pie. As part of a conscious effort on my part to decrease the amount of processed white sugar in my recipes I began substituting honey many years ago! The phenomenal flavor resulting from the combination of apples, cranberries, honey, and orange zest will make this a family favorite in your home too! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAVE A GREAT TIME HOLIDAY COOKING WITH YOUR DUTCH OVENS! CEE DUB
