This cast iron Dutch oven is 12" in diameter and holds 9 1/3 quarts. It comes pre-seasoned. There is no "seasoning or curing" needed before use. To start cooking merely take it out of the box, rinse with hot water and start cooking. Cast iron cookware is the original non-stick cookware. It is a "Deep" oven which makes it great for roasting a whole chicken, making soups or stews, casseroles, baked potatoes, desserts, and sheepherder style bread. It has an aperture that allows a thermometer to be inserted into the Dutch oven to get the internal temperature of the Dutch oven or inserted into the food itself to prevent under cooking or over cooking. The deep lid can be used as a skillet on a camp stove or doubles as a serving trivet for hot Dutch ovens.
