WHAT
OUR VIEWERS ARE SAYING!
Mr.
CW Welch & Co.:
This
note is just to say "thanks" for the DO kit, which I
received as a gift from my wife last week. It is really
pretty cool, and I got to give it a trial on a short trip
to Bumping Lake (near White Pass) from which we just returned.
Of course, we cooked from your book ("More..."). I'm
a pretty experienced cook (but not experienced with DO),
and my wife is a professional (she's a UC Davis grad, food
technologist), so we could tell from looking at the recipes
that her and I would probably like them. And we did: dinner
was stuffed flank steak with some extra spuds thrown in, and
breakfast was the baked oatmeal. But the reaction of my 7 year
old, Mark, was quite unexpected.
Now,
to say that Mark is a picky eater would be like describing
huckleberries as "edible", or the grizzly bear as a
"large mammal"... correct, but lacking in details
that would be helpful in an encounter with them. He had
seen you on TV making that recipe, or maybe he just heard us
talking about your TV description of baked oatmeal as "a
large cookie." Cookies, you see, are among the very
few things that do pass his lips with regularity. He hovered
about the oven asking if he could try some, and immediately
pronounced it very much to his liking! And he did proceed to
prove it by scarfing down several servings... OH MY! You KNOW
you're on the right track if Mark is on your side Mr. W!
Best
regards, and best wishes for continued success.

I host a statewide
radio program called Indiana Outdoors. It is a camping, fishing,
hunting show that airs on 26 stations every week for an hour.
I was in Denver last fall and happened to catch your show on Public
Television while in the hotel. I was fascinated. I could not believe
there was a Dutch oven cooking show on TV. I love the role of
camp cook and have recently started with Dutch ovens myself. (It
is another addictive hobby.) I was so caught up in your program
I missed part of the next seminar session. I even contributed
money to the Rocky Mountain Public Television station to get your
books and tape. I have enjoyed all of them!
Bryan Poynter, Host of Indiana Outdoors, Nobelsville,
Indiana.
Love the show,
I'm a big time watcher. I am 13 and my Dad and I always watch
your show. I wish your show was on more often. I will always watch
your show.
Adam, Chicago, Illinois.
My wife and I
just moved to Michigan from South Texas. We found your program
on the local Public Television Station and find it to be one of
the ONLY things worth while to watch. We've always
been campers and go every chance we get. I'm the camp cook and
it was your program that opened up a whole new world for me.
Larry Brusso, Waterford, Michigan.
Heh! C.W.
Just thought I would drop you a line and let you know that
I really enjoy your show on Public Television. It's about time
someone put some good old style cooking shows on the tube.
Ken Maltby, Bakersfield, California.
Got a BIG
laugh out of your story regarding the college kids and their experiment
with canola oil (vs, peanut oil), and the attendant conflagration.
I don't laugh out loud too often, but that one got me!
Jim Tanner, San Francisco, California.
I am a Chicago
police officer assigned to the mounted patrol unit. Several of
us watch your show every week on WYCC here in Chicago. I had to
laugh when you were telling the story of the pack horse that spooked
because he was overloaded and the load began to shift and the
rest of the horses followed suit.
Jon Greco, Chicago, Illinois.
A couple of
years ago, my friend told me about a show he saw when he was living
in Idaho. He was so fired up about it he started getting involved
in Dutch oven cooking. Our next camping trip he did all the cooking
and I have to tell you they were the best meals I have ever had.
I live in San Jose, Ca. and had never seen your show until this
past Saturday when I caught the last few minutes of it. You
had made some nachos and a meat dish. I hope the show was just
not a fluke and I also hope it is on a regular basis here. I have
come to realize there is nothing you can not cook in a Dutch oven
and you have mastered it! Thanks for opening our eyes to the possibilities!!
I hope you keep the show going!!
Craig Wilbanks, San Jose, California.
I saw you
on TV making a cobbler. Your video of instructions on how to cook
and take care of Dutch oven is very good.
Dixie Fortenberry, Hereford, Texas.
I watch your
show on WYCC, PBS Channel 20 out of Chicago. They have your show
on through November and include the topics of your show. It has
proven very helpful.....You've helped me coin one of my favorite
quotes of wisdom: "If it smells done, it's done; if it doesn't
smell done, it's not; and if it smells burnt, it's burn't!"
-Tim Dunn, Barrington, Illinois.
I enjoy your
show immensely, have both your books and the tape. Priceless,
all of them.
-Mike and Jackie B.
I'm on vacation
in Boulder, Colorado. I watch your camp cooking show on Public
Television every day. We don't get your show in L.A. where I live.
You've got me hooked! I just bought my first Dutch oven and both
of your cook books.
-Jim F.
Love your
TV programs and cook books.
-Renee B. Utah
Just to let
you know what a great show 'Dutch Oven and Camp Cooking' is. I
have dabbled in Dutch oven cooking with friends on camping trips
with a tripod but your show, the video, and cook book has opened
a whole new way to go.
-Norb Cassidy, Portsmouth, Ohio.
Glad to hear
that you will continue cooking on Public television during 2001.
I really enjoy the program and have told my bride of 40 years
that i don't want to be disturbed while viewing it. So far she
hasn't interfered and I don't know whether to be happy or frightened!
